FIRM HISTORY
The firm has a long history of innovation and initiative which has helped shape energy consulting work and the California energy standards. In 1984, Michael Gabel Associates developed the first full-featured energy compliance program, COMPLY 24. In 1988 and in 1992, Gabel Associates was the primary author of the state's Residential Compliance Manual. In 1991, the firm helped develop California's Nonresidential ACM Manual which defined the internal rules and procedures that state-approved energy compliance software had to incorporate.
Since 1986, Gabel Associates has been active in the founding and growth of the California Association of Building Energy Consultants (CABEC). In 2002, Mike Gabel was honored for lifetime achievement in the CABEC Hall of Fame for his work in behalf of the organization
(www.cabec.org/halloffame.php).
Since 2003, Gabel Associates has helped dozens of cities and counties develop and implement local green building and energy ordinances (“reach codes”) that exceed the California Standards.
Currently:
- Gina Rodda is conducting full day trainings on the energy standards for the investor-owned-utilities (IOUs) Codes &
Standards program targeting building department staff and energy consultants; and she is providing detailed analysis of LEED
Energy credits using the Title 24 or ASHRAE 90.1 baseline for New Construction, Core & Shell and CHPS/HPS for schools.
- Mike Gabel and Rosemary Howley are helping to develop new examinations for the 2013 Residential and Nonresidential Certified Energy Analyst (CEA) program sponsored by the California Association of Building Energy Consultants (CABEC).
